Typical Day

It’s nearly April. Time is passing so quickly, it’s actually alarming to me. I had asked Scott to find a place where we could rent an e-bike for me so I can see if I really will ride it. I’ve never ridden an e-bike (ebike?). There are some bike lanes here, not a lot, but some. The roundabouts are pretty scary and a lot of the roads are very narrow and sometimes cobblestoned instead of paved and there can be a lot of potholes. It will make my life better, though, if I can be brave enough and resourceful enough to find back ways to get places.

My back hasn’t hurt at all today <knock wood>, and that’s great, but odd. I hope I’ll be able to get an MRI and find out what is going on.

Anyway, he called me from Martin’s Ebike in Almancil today. A smaller town, not far away. He asked me to come there and get a rental bike (he had ridden his over there) and ride it back to Faro. I kinda hadn’t really gotten up yet, but did so and ubered over there. Haha. It started raining just before I arrived. The bike shop will actually deliver the bike. So we arranged for them to bring it on Tuesday and we’ll return it the following Tuesday. The shop is closed after today until Tuesday, that’s also when the forecast stops including rain.

The Food Co, which I mentioned in an earlier post, was just across the street, so we went over there. The focus at this store is on items British people are used to and like. The “Ridiculously Crispy Cheesy Hashbrowns” caught my eye. I mean, that kind of says "Waffle House" doesn't it. Not so much. Then I noticed in the picture on the box (frozen food section) that the cheese seems to be in the middle. It looked sort of fake. Maybe "cheesefood" or something. I wasn't sure what to make of that, so I passed. There were some other “Ridiculously Crispy” items which led us to believe it’s a brand. Upon googling it, I found a company named Iceland out of the UK. I dunno. Just couldn’t pull the trigger.

No surprise, there’s quite a lot of beer there. Even Budweiser and Peroni (Italian), which is not easy to find in Charlotte (but can be done. I’m talking about the Peroni, of course). Scott’s always on the lookout for Bass Ale. Seldom found it in Charlotte and didn’t find it at Food Co. either. We asked the person who checked us out and she had never heard of it. Hmmm. If I were a beer person, I’d have to try the Old Speckled Hen beer.

I took another Uber back to the apartment with our purchases and Scott rode his bike, making a stop somewhere to eat. Hrumph. After I got home I walked the dogs, put the groceries away, vacuumed the floor and defrosted the freezer. Yay me!

So that’s a Saturday in Faro. I was under the delusion that today was Monday. Crazy.

Almost forgot, Scott made a yummy potato and leek soup in the Bimby!
