My Truth

It’s almost 5pm on Wednesday here. I’m sitting in lovely sunshine. The temperature is 60F. Way warmer than in Charlotte today. It’s really hard to put my feelings into words. That’s unusual for me. I’m not feeling regret. I do miss my peeps and may start trying to call more people more often (WhatsApp, do you have it?). I miss some things about our house (that will probably get truer in summer) and I am eagerly looking forward to the arrival of the stuff we shipped.

I’ve just been weirdly un-emotional. Like numb. I guess it’s a form of shock? I’m trying to just go with it, trusting that it will eventually fade away.

Last evening we took an Uber to the next town over, Olhão. About a 15 minute ride. I was kinda looking to live there, but Scott had valid reasons for choosing Faro. Olhão is close enough. Anyway, a group of expats meets at this 5-star hotel every week! We got there about 30 minutes after it started. I’d say there were 10-20 people there over the course of the evening.  Very informal. We met some nice people. No name tags. DAMN IT! I’m a HUGE proponent of name tags these days. I’m pretty sure we’ll go again, but not every week.

There are some Facebook groups specifically for certain towns. I joined 2 for Faro and, I guess 1 for Olhão. Tonight is a meet-up, or officially a “language exchange, where you can meet new people, make friends, and break away from your daily routine.” It’s here in Faro, I think we can walk. Not sure exactly what it will be like, but there’s an actual agenda. I’ll letcha know after.

Today we received MAIL! My niece, Joy’s wedding invitation! So exciting. My step-sister Wendy had the correct address for us. The postmark is December 30. There it was! Right in the mailbox. Very exciting. In case you haven’t read the other post about mail, our landlord somehow did not put the correct mailing address on our lease. So I gave out the wrong/incomplete address. I’m happy to provide the correct address, I just don’t want to do it so publicly. Let me know if you want it. Crazy, to me, it just had a forever stamp on it. I thought there would be some sort of airmail…. Maybe it would have come more quickly with some sort of airmail postage. Dunno.

Please plan to come visit sometime! I would so love to see y’all. It’s great to be able to watch the Caldwell Church service online. I see you almost like I’m there. And get to chat with other watchers!

OK, that’s it from this bat channel for now! Love and peace!

Robbi (legal spelling Robbie)
